the best activities for families around DORNBIRN

Families are not a homogeneous mass. On the contrary: they are usually a colorful bouquet of different characters, genders and age groups (small children, teenagers, of course mom, dad and maybe even grandma and grandpa). That's why we show a wide variety of activities here, so there's sure to be something for everyone, regardless of age.

Adventure in the great outdoors: canyoning

For beginners, there are the best tours right in Dornbirn. One of them bears the magical name Merlin's World. Anyone who has ever been to the upper Kobelache (the actual name of the gorge) will have experienced the magic of this place for themselves. Magnificent rock formations, wonderful natural scenery, simply amazement. This tour can be booked for families with children aged eight and over. Beginner tours usually last half a day and naturally include a thorough introduction to the necessary techniques, such as abseiling.

Water adventures on the lake and in the forest
Stand-up paddling - or as it's more contemporary: stand-up paddling - has been a trend for several years. Many people have their own SUP board and want to use it on vacation. The best place to do this is at Lake Constance. Just a few minutes' drive from Dornbirn, the wonderful inland lake, whose territory we share with Switzerland and Germany, can be reached quickly. It is also easy to get to the Swabian Sea (as Lake Constance is also known with a wink) by public transport. And then it's time to get paddling. If you don't own a SUP board but would like to give it a try, we recommend SURF MAX in Hard. From a rental service and a wide range of courses, including for beginners, to sunset SUP tours, there is everything a stand-up paddler's heart desires. Kayaks and canoes can also be hired.
Not in the mood for the sea, but simply fancy a relaxing day of swimming? Then the WALDBAD ENZ in Dornbirn is the right tip. The bus takes you directly from the Krone to the Waldbad and you can start enjoying the natural bathing fun.

Family hike to the Lustenauer Hütte
For many of our guests, a vacation in Vorarlberg also means a hiking holiday. We can well understand that. There are numerous hiking opportunities around Dornbirn. For families, we particularly recommend the hike to LUSTENAUER HÜTTE. Like almost every hike, this one starts with a comfortable bus journey. From Dornbirn, the route takes you to Bödele, the local recreation area on the Losenpass. Then the leisurely hike towards the Lustenauer Hütte begins. After around one and a half hours, which pass quickly thanks to the charming natural scenery, you reach your destination - and the fun continues right here. At the Lustenauer Hütte, you can dig for gold, play soccer, table tennis, golf and much more. The children have fun, the parents enjoy the mountain panorama with a cool drink - hiking couldn't be more beautiful.

Off to Walter Zoo
Everyone loves a visit to the zoo. Across the border, in Switzerland, there is the WALTER ZOO in Gossau. This zoo is definitely worth the 40-minute drive. What's more, a visit to the zoo is an experience for all ages. It's easy to spend a whole day here: Admire the animals, watch them being fed, feed the little goats yourself, ride a camel or pony, make sure you go to the zoo theater and enjoy an Olma bratwurst. Nowhere else do they taste as good as in Switzerland.

Bad weather? Good program!

Yes, there are also rainy days in Dornbirn. But even these are no excuse to indulge in doing nothing. Pack up the family and head to the Trampoline and Action Park HIGHMATRAUSCH. Rainy days become active days there. Up and down on over 50 trampolines. At the end of the day, everyone is happy, exhausted and looking forward to a meal at the Krone.
